Do you ski or snowboard? Or do you maybe want to pick up a new hobby this winter? Maybe you'll be on locum tenens assignment and you're just looking for a nice ski lodge to sip some hot chocolate and enjoy the views. No matter what you're looking for we've compiled a list of the greatest ski resorts to visit this winter in the Rocky Mountains.
1) Brighton, Utah
Utah ranks high on most "Top Ski Resorts" lists. And more often than not it's Park City Mountain Resort topping said lists. But this time around we wanted to shine a light on some of the lesser-known resorts – Brighton Ski Resort being one of them.
Brighton is known as one of the oldest ski resorts in the entire country. It's low-key but it's continued success comes from its ideal location. Sitting at the very top of Big Cottonwood Canyon this resort gets a lot of that light and fluffy snow that Utah is especially known for. If you can't make it during the day Brighton also boasts some of the best night skiing around, too.
2) Snowbird, Utah
You'd think some favoritism is involved here. The first two ski resorts out of the top five on this list are in Utah, the very place we call home. Trust us, we're being as impartial as we can; it's just that Utah is home to a slew of amazing ski resorts.
Snowbird, located in Little Cottonwood Canyon, is one of those amazing ski resorts. And it also gets hit with that light, airy Utah snow. Head up on a powder day, not only is it reminiscent of the Alps; you'll be astonished by how effortlessly you can glide down the mountain.
3) Telluride, Colorado
See? We're not playing favorites. Here's a fantastic ski resort not in Utah. Telluride Ski Resort, located in the southern San Juan Mountains (part of the Rockies) in southwest Colorado, is world famous. Not just for its 2,000 skiable acres. But also for the fact that it's positioned among the "highest concentration of fourteeners in North America." Fourteener meaning mountain peaks with an elevation equal to or greater than 14,000 feet. That makes for some world-class views on top of some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the country. Believe it or not though, about 60 percent of the resort is perfect for intermediates or beginners.
