Conditions treated:
Asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, emphysema, pneumonia and other pulmonary infections, bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease, lung cancer, chronic cough, and work-related respiratory issues.
Summary of Job Duties and Tasks:
• Responsible for evaluating and treating pulmonary conditions on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
• Provides direct care to hospitalized patients, including diagnosis, treatment, and the performance of medical procedures (within the scope of practice as a pulmonologist).
• Conducts daily hospital rounds on all patients referred to the service.
• Examines patients, obtains medical histories, performs and interprets diagnostic tests, and documents all services in patient’s medical record.
• Coordinates with hospital medical practitioners, departments, and administration to ensure high quality and effective patient care.
• Communicates, consults, and collaborates with all physicians, the interdisciplinary team, and other healthcare personnel reviewing patients’ progress and variances, and ensures a timely hospital discharge.
• Converses daily with families, referring physicians, other specialists, administration, and hospital departments in the care and treatment of patients referred to the service.
• Provides distinctive, personalized care and services by listening, anticipating, and responding to the needs of internal staff and referring physicians/specialists.
• Exceeds patient expectations by providing empathetic bedside manners.
• Educates patients on wellness, prevention, and early detection by providing materials and resources to patients and their families.
• Ensures that proper patient documentation is timely, accurate, and complete, and compliant with office, hospital, and government entities.
• Works with practice management to ensure proper compliance with billing, coding, and CPT code assignment.
• Develops and maintains excellent working relationships with hospital departments and hospital administration, promoting teamwork and camaraderie.
• Acts in a positive and professional manner, complying with hospital policies, procedures, and federal and state laws
