Bird-watching in the Caribbean

People often head to the Caribbean to soak up the sun and spend days on the beach, but doctors who travel to this destination as locum tenens may be more eager to explore their surroundings. Birdwatching is a popular activity, but doesn't quite attract the throngs of tourists that the Caribbean sands do so locums can enjoy avian sounds in peace.

Doctors can relax and take in the natural environment around them while abroad. The islands of the Caribbean are great places to observe wildlife as it offers a number of different species one may not be accustomed to seeing back at home.

For guided activities, the National Trust offers group sessions lead by professional ornithologists and bird enthusiasts. Doctors are also welcome to join one of the many bird clubs in the islands.

Key places to visit for the best birdwatching are the Botanic Park, the Governor Michael Gore Bird Sanctuary, Mastic Reserve, Central Mangrove Wetland and the Cayman Brac Parrot Reserve.
