Take the family to the Auckland Zoo

The Auckland Zoo is the largest attraction of its kind in New Zealand, and it is home to 750 animals belonging to 120 species that hail from all over the world. In addition to its impressive size, the facility is known for its environmentally friendly initiatives and its progressive conservation policies.

Some of the highlights of the zoo include the ASB Elephant Clearing, where visitors can meet an Asian elephant; the Aussie Walkabout, which is home to several unusual species from the neighboring country of Australia; the BNZ Kiwi and Tuatara House, which allows tourists to see some of New Zealand's best-known endemic animals; and Sea Lion and Penguin Shores, where travelers can see some engaging underwater critters.

Many guests at the Auckland Zoo love participating in Animal Encounters, a series of daily zookeeper talks that allow visitors to get up close and personal with animals like the giraffe, elephant, cheetah, macaw, meerkat, Galapagos tortoise, tarantula, spider monkey and orangutan.
