Belgian beers wait at the finish line for a Melbourne cycling club

Cycling and beer aren't as common a pair as peanut butter and jelly or spaghetti and meatballs, but in Melbourne, Australia, the Belgian Beer Cafe makes it work for dozens of bikers. The "unofficial embassies of Belgium," as they have dubbed themselves, are situated on St. Kilda Road and Southbank, where they promote Belgian culture, beer and cuisine in an authentic Belgian environment. Aside from their pride in their craft, the beer garden also sponsors its own cycling club, which any locum tenens doctor is welcome to join.

As cycling has long been a favorite Belgian sport, the cafe thought it was only natural to start its own club for patrons and staff members. Established in 2004, the Belgian Beer Cafe (BBC) Cycling Club aims to bring the European social experience of cycling and good, frothy beer to the city of Melbourne.

On the last Saturday of each month, the group comes together at one venue—Cafe Eureka or Cafe Bluestone—and enjoys a delicious, hearty breakfast with newfound friends. Decked in black, red and gold, the club members look like a team of Olympic athletes winding down the streets of the Land Down Under. To take part in this bonding experience, you can sign up at either location, ride for miles and then enjoy the pint of ale that you wholeheartedly deserve.
