Enjoy the natural perks of New Zealand for free

Taking a medical job in New Zealand allows you to live a fun lifestyle in the adventurous country, exploring the cultural attractions, bustling cities and stunning Kiwi landscape from coast to coast. However, it's nice to save a few dollars wherever possible, and luckily, the Land of the Long White Cloud has numerous free activities for you to take advantage of during your stay. Because free-access places like Kerosene Creek and Rangitoto Island don't turn a profit, there's little publicity centered around them, making them well-kept secrets of the nation.

Kerosene Creek is a geothermally heated body of water and natural spa bath for Kiwis and the nation's visitors who venture to the spot. You can walk alongside the steaming creek on a dirt track, where thousands of bubbles jet up to the warm surface. Further down the fern-lined path is a small waterfall with a swimming area, which is arguably the best part of the trip. The entire pool is warmed by the earth, allowing anyone to float and relax during even the coldest months.

Not far from Auckland rests Rangitoto Island, created by a volcanic eruption about 600 years ago. Meaning "Bloody Sky," Rangitoto provides some of the most stunning views of Auckland that you'll ever see. On your way up to the summit of the volcanic cone, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the lava caves and New Zealand's floral emblem, the koru.
