Marvel at the unique rata tree along the Grove trail

The Grove Scenic Reserve is a top-rated walk in the Golden Bay region of New Zealand where you can see nearly every aspect of Aotearoa's beautiful landscape within a 30-minute trek. When you take a medical job in New Zealand, make sure to tramp this natural attraction situated along the northern tip of the South Island.

Among the Grove's most significant features are its enormous rata trees, which grow out of limestone outcrops. You can walk right past these towering specimens and take pictures of their unique development at the base of massive rocks. These trees grow over time on top of the rocks and into the ground.

Around mid-December, this portion of the Golden Bay Crimson Trail—which is one of seven sites along Abel Tasman Drive that feature the marvelous rata tree—is at its peak because you can also witness the crimson flowering period take over the entire tropical reserve.

The trail takes only 30 minutes, so you can take your time strolling down it and snapping pictures of the scenic landscapes that you pass along the way.
