Venture along Routeburn on the South Island

The Routeburn Track has fulfilled the wild hearts of New Zealanders since the 1880s, and with its central location between Fiordland and Mount Aspiring, there are few places quite as beautiful in the country. While you probably won't use the track the same way the Maori people did when you take a medical job in New Zealand, you'll get to enjoy its beauty all the same.

Hundreds of years ago, greenstone, or "pounamu," attracted Maori people to this region of the South Island so they could make tools, weapons and various ornaments for selling, hunting and trading purposes. Now, it's a beautiful stretch of land that brings diverse ecosystems together, allowing you to see massive fields of mountain buttercups, ourisia and daisies beside alpine rivers and tranquil lakes.

While you're venturing along the track, you'll also see your fair share of wild creatures roaming the land and swimming in the waters—red deer, whitetail deer, rainbow trout and a number of endemic birds, to name a few.
