How long has it been since you've been to the beach? However you answer that, we've got a follow-up question: How long has it been since you've been truly captivated by the unparalleled beauty of a beach? We're talking palm trees casting long shadows over immaculate white sand and gentle blue waters tossing subtle, white-fringed waves onto the shore.

Take a locum tenens assignment in the U.S. Virgin Islands and you can find exactly those kinds of beaches. No worries, either. We've done the work for you in finding these flawless stretches of sand. All you have to do now is get here.

Secret Harbor (St. Thomas)

Your entire family will love this beach. Not only because it's located in an idyllic, protected bay ideal for sunbathing and relaxation but also because it has calm waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Plus a fantastic restaurant and beach bar are nearby. Go on, grab yourself a cool cocktail then watch the kids jump off an anchored raft a little ways offshore.

Cane Bay (St. Croix)

This beach has just about everything. It's a little busier at times but it never gets too busy that it's not enjoyable. Rental huts offer beach chairs as well as dive and snorkel gear. If you do decide to go scuba diving, guided shore dives are available where you can witness the Wall. The ocean floor turns into a sheer cliff here which falls about two miles downward into the Puerto Rico Trench. Are you more of a landlubber? Horseback riding is available along the beach, too.

Coki Point (St. Thomas)

Less palm trees dot this sandscape. That means you might want to bring a beach umbrella to keep you protected from the sun. Still, this beach is a must-see. Located conveniently next to Coral World Marine Park, you can make a day out of visiting both. It's worth mentioning, too, that you can rent jet skis here. Get out on the crystal-clear waters and explore away.
