Tour the astounding waterfalls in the Land of the Long White Cloud

New Zealand's mountainous landscape and amount of rainfall make it the perfect environment for thousands of magnificent waterfalls. Hike through beautifully diverse flora or drive the countryside in search of the many cascades that dot the landscape. Whichever way you choose, your locum tenens assignment should include visiting a few of these stunning sites.

Most of the country's waterfalls are found on the South Island, though many of the best-known cascading bodies of water can be found on North Island. If you choose to venture to North Island, head to the west to catch the forceful waters of Bridal Veil Falls. The 180-foot (55-m) drop provides space to view its beauty from the top or at its base along a well-defined path. It's not the largest in the country, but it's certainly an unforgettable sight, with lush greenery surrounding the plummeting white waters as they fall to the depths below.

Mightiest of all is Sutherland Falls, an astounding 1,903-foot plunge (580-m) with three distinct vertical cascades on its way to the base. The natural wonder is one of the tallest waterfalls in the world with an astonishingly steep drop from its peak. The most daring visitors have cliff jumped from one of its lower points, but viewing the magnificent landmark is enough to take in its colossal beauty.
