Travel inland to Hyden and see Australia's most famous wave

Australia is well known for its prime surf. But one of its most famous waves is not on the coast, it's actually inland just east of of a small town called Hyden. When you're on locum tenens assignment Down Under be sure to visit Wave Rock.

This completely natural rock formation is shaped like a tall, breaking ocean wave, about 47 feet (14 m) high and 350 feet (110 m) long. The granite cliff forms the north side of a hill known as Hyden Rock, which lies just outside of town and is the reason that hundreds of thousands of tourists come to visit each year.

It's not the only spectacular formation in the area though. Mulka's Cave is about 11 miles away (18 km) and is worth a visit. Aside from its natural beauty and abundance of Aboriginal paintings, it holds the story of an Aboriginal outlaw who was the illegitimate son of a couple who were forbidden to marry. He took refuge in the cave. To this day you can still see imprints of his hands on the cave wall, which are much larger than that of an ordinary man.
