Traverse the best tramps in Aotearoa

A more common term for "trekking," tramping is an exhilarating way to view the diverse landscape in the Land of the Long White Cloud. From glacial regions and alpine forests to volcanic craters and clear Pacific waters—you can stumble upon a good trail just about anywhere when you take a medical job in New Zealand. Try some of these top-rated paths for the most epic tramping experiences.

The Marlborough Sounds are a great place to start when you're looking for spectacular terrain to explore. A region of river valleys and lush terrain, you'll likely stop multiple times during your hike to check out the natural landmarks you pass along the way. The 44-mile (71-kilometer) Queen Charlotte track takes you on a tour of bays and the turquoise river waters in the north region of the South Island.

Another fun tramp that you can experience is the Hollyford Track, situated in the eponymous valley in the South Island, which was carved by glaciers over the course of decades. It is one of only two places in the world where glacial waters meet rainforest, reports The Sydney Morning Herald. (The other is Patagonia). You'll traverse the Fiordland National Park, gazing up at the region's largest peaks, Tutoko and Madeline.
