Venture deep in the wild along Tasmania's Overland Track

Bring up hiking to a Tasmanian and they will likely mention the Overland Track. The famous walk spans across the Cradle Mountain Lake St. Clair National Park in Tassie for just about 45 miles (73 km), making it a six-day journey, and one of the most epic adventures you'll experience when you take a medical job Down Under.

The World Heritage wilderness takes you across rolling trails through lush forests and Outback terrain, where you'll see the occasional eco-hut dotting the otherwise sparse rural landscape. Some of the coolest sights that you'll want to whip out your camera for include Crater Lake and Crater Mountain, which is often shrouded by a thin veil of mist that makes it appear like an ethereal scene straight from a fantasy film. You'll also see a handful of peculiar creatures like the cat-like quoll.

Even if you can't embark on the entire Overland Track journey, you can still enjoy the diverse landscape in a day or two while on assignment in Tasmania.
