That's why we've put together this handy starter guide of some of our favorite cities in New Zealand. Without further ado, here are our top picks.
Wellington
Dubbed "the coolest little capital in the world" by Lonely Planet, Wellington is an art- and culture-lover's dream. Te Papa Tongarewa Museum – New Zealand's national museum and the most visited museum in Oceania – is housed here. It traces the country's storied past through unique and diverse art installments.
Are you more of an adventure buff? You're in luck because Kapiti Island Nature Reserve is not only home to golden beaches; it's also the perfect place to satisfy your cravings for local cheeses and ice cream. Get a little trek in then be sure to end the day with some dairy delights.
Queenstown
Queenstown is a goldmine of outdoor activities. In fact, it's said that bungy jumping was invented here. You can also go skiing, skydiving, jet boating and river rafting year round. Jaw-dropping views encompass this town, too: the crystal-clear Lake Wakatipu and the mountain range appropriately named The Remarkables are not far off from the city center.
Auckland
Ahh, Auckland. Just saying it is a breath of fresh air. That's right; breathe deep in New Zealand's largest city. The word "utopia" may have been invented because of this very metropolis. You're surrounded by infinite beauty here. Within 45 minutes you can be on the famous black-sand beach, Piha. Or take a short ferry ride to Rangitoto Island and tramp the Summit Track complete with massive city views. Or stay in town and visit the 1,000-foot Sky Tower to see equally impressive city views. No matter which city you visit when you take a medical job here, you're sure to fall in love with the culture, the cuisine, the people and the views.
