Brace yourself for perspective-changing views of Seattle

Picture this. You're 14,000 feet in the air. The morning sun's at your back. And the bustling urban sprawl of Seattle unfolds beneath the wings of your single-engine craft. Sounds like the start of a beautiful day, doesn't it? Make it happen when you're on your locum tenens assignment in this city by the sea.

Nothing's better than waking up at the break of day with a cup of famous, Seattle-brewed coffee. Scratch that, nothing's better than all that plus a sky-high tour of this great Pacific Northwest city in a floatplane. Try a 20-minute guided tour of local landmarks. Or take an hour-long sojourn over nearby San Juan Island. Pilots are happy to tailor your trip anyway you want: scenic flights, dinner flights to a neighboring island and even private charters are possible.

Heights aren't your thing? Head to Kenmore Air and watch a fleet of floatplanes take off and land on the surface of Lake Washington. It's a fantastic sight. Or if you just don't want to be airborne but want to overlook the city, you still have the chance to catch a fiery red horizon at the top of the Space Needle.

Even the most steadfast supporters of that pointy, skyscraping, iconic beauty will admit nothing compares to the views you get in a high-upyet still safe!floatplane. The Emerald City from ground level is great and everything. It's just, when you take to the skies and all you can hear is the purring of the engine; and your forehead's firmly pressed against the plane window; and your eyes are braced for jaw-dropping, perspective-changing views, nothing really beats that. Take a medical job in this portion of Washington then unwind on the weekends in the clouds.
