Visit Wilsons Promontory National Park near Melbourne

Wilsons Promontory National Park, the southernmost reserve of its kind on the Australian mainland, is a great place for locum tenens to see native wildlife and enjoy fun outdoor activities.

The park, also known as Wilsons Prom or just "The Prom," is located approximately 100 miles southeast of Melbourne. It's home to a diverse array of endemic Australian species, including kangaroos, wombats, echidnas, emus and much more. Because Wilsons Prom is a popular tourist destination, many of the animals near campsites have grown accustomed to humans. They have been known to approach humans and accept food—and sometimes even crawl into tents uninvited.

In addition to the wildlife, a main draw of The Prom is its great network of hiking trails. Day hikers can enjoy many different paths, ranging in difficulty from short beach jaunts to hikes lasting two to three hours. Moreover, visitors can also get special permits for overnight hiking in the park, giving them the chance to camp next to the beach or along the Tidal River. One popular hike goes up Mount Oberon, as travelers can get great views of the ocean and the surrounding landscape from the peak.
