Do you have a couple days on Fraser Island? Here's what you should do.

Welcome to the world's largest sand island. That's correct, Fraser Island is largely made of sand. But if you visited this island right off Queensland's shore you wouldn't think that. The place is actually quite lush, filled with rainforest and freshwater lakes all the while the Coral Sea crashes on its shore. Do you plan to take a locum tenens job in Australia? Make sure you visit Fraser Island. You won't want to miss this brilliant stretch of sand.

Situated not far from Queensland's Fraser Coast, this World Heritage-listed island is just a short ferry ride from Hervey Bay. And you probably guessed that there's an abundance of things to do here. You'd be right. Here are the sights we recommend visiting.

The Pinnacles

Filled with colors you've never seen in sand (up to 72 different colors have been recorded in these formations), the Pinnacles are a truly amazing sight.

The Lookout

For a wondrous panoramic view of ocean and island find your way to Indian Head on Fraser Island's most easterly point.

Valley of the Giants

This hike can be incorporated into the Fraser Island Great Walk or you can knock this one out by itself. It's well worth it to witness some herculean rainforest trees (the Giant Satinay and the Giant Tallowwood).

Sandy Cape Lighthouse

You'll find this active lighthouse on the most northern tip of the island. On top of being in an utterly gorgeous area, Sandy Cape's claim to fame is that it's the tallest lighthouse in Queensland.
