Step into the past at Ferrymead Heritage Park in New Zealand

Locum tenens working in the Christchurch area can get a blast from the past when they pay a visit to the Ferrymead Heritage Park, a replica township that mimics life in early 20th century Edwardian England.

This cultural attraction features a wide array of authentic structures similar to those found in turn-of-the-century Britain, including homes, a theatre, a schoolhouse, a church, a jail and a railway station.

The railway station is perhaps the most important hub of activity in Ferrymead, as it is the staging ground for electric tram and train rides that carry visitors around the park. The electric tram welcomes passengers on weekends and public holidays, while the trains ran on the first Sunday of every month until they were damaged by an earthquake.

During a visit to Ferrymead Heritage Park, travelers will get a chance to interact with members of more than 20 volunteer societies and groups dedicated to maintaining this cultural attraction. These staff members are able to guide tourists through the attraction's many museums and cultural displays, giving them greater insight into how the township reflects life in the past.
