Celebrate the Chinese New Year in Melbourne

While on locum assignment in Australia, you will get to ring in the new year on January 1, and then again on the 23rd when you visit Chinatown in Melbourne.

Attending a Chinese New Year celebration in Australia will provide you with an opportunity to experience a part of Chinese culture while Down Under.

New year's celebrations in Chinatown are typically marked by the appearance of the Dai Loong, or Great Dragon, which is carried by 80 people through the street. You and your fellow locum tenens may want to reach out and touch it as it passes by, since this action is said to bring you luck.

Even if you can not make it to Chinese New Year in Melbourne, you should consider visiting Chinatown at some other point during your assignment. In addition to the occasional event, this part of the city hosts an assortment of shops and restaurants that sell cuisine from different Asian countries.

If you are not near Melbourne, then you may be in close proximity to another Chinatown, as there are a few in other parts of the country, including Perth and Adelaide.
