Do a triathlon through New Zealand's breathtaking landscape

You've decided to take your locum tenens assignment in New Zealand. Now's your chance to discover all of the national landmarks, outdoor adventures and cultural events that you can take advantage of in the unfamiliar territory. Tramping along trails in national parks, exploring South Island and kayaking the Milford Sound are only a few of the opportunities that await when you arrive in the temperate country.

As a nation that highly values its land, taking part in outdoor activities is common among virtually all members of Kiwi society. And on the North Island, you can take part in the wildly popular IronMan New Zealand.

Marking the opening of the season for Lake Taupo, the massive event typically sees 1,500 contestants battling for $50,000 of prize money. The competitors swim 2.4 miles, cycle 112 miles and run 26 miles through the stunning New Zealand landscape of hot springs, volcanoes and waterfalls.

If you're hesitant about joining IronMan, you can stand among 20,000 other visitors and cheer on those who are daring enough to take on the challenge. Warm-up events take place all week and create quite the social atmosphere for anyone who attends the festivities.
