Extreme city makeover: Christchurch edition

The city of Christchurch is about to receive a major facelift, and you can reap all of the benefits of this transformation when you take a medical job in New Zealand in the near future. From a brand new convention center and sports stadium to a performing arts complex, downtown Christchurch may be nearly unrecognizable with its new look.

Emphasizing innovation centers and lush green spaces throughout the district, the city's planners stated that the blueprints resemble the feel of a modern college campus, with lower buildings that possess higher earthquake construction standards, according to The Associated Press.

"It will be safe, modern green and will leave a legacy that makes Christchurch one of the best places in the world to live and work for many generations to come," Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker stated.

Another gem of the surrounding landscape that will have a more prominent role within the new layout is the Avon River, the beautiful winding waterway that flows through the center of the city. According to the news source, restauranteurs and hoteliers have already begun planning efforts to boost tourism in the area surrounding the new projects like the convention center and sports stadium.
