Flora fanatics can find stunning blossoms in New Zealand

While walking along the sandy coast of Dunedin, New Zealand, you may find yourself staring at a breathtaking display of crimson flowers along the forested landscape surrounding the beach.

These scarlet blossoms are part of the Pohutukawa tree, one of New Zealand's signature plants scattered around the island. During the nation's summer season, from November to January, the native tree is in full bloom, allowing the vibrant arborous plants to act as a special symbol of the holidays.

The trees tend to grow along the coastlines of warmer parts of the island, but are able to grow in almost any well-drained soil. While on your island locum assignment, you can plant a Pohutukawa in your backyard to give it a colorful and cultural boost and create a nice place to rest in the shade.

During your island explorations, you may also stumble upon a wild array of tall violet blossoms stretching along the Cardrona River while riding down Crown Range Road. An abundant flower on the island, the lupins species of plant has made many tourists stop their vehicles to capture the swaying, roadside flowers. While violet is its prominent hue, the flower's variants include shades of pink, blue and yellow and can make a lively addition to your kitchen or living room decor.
