Learn the spiritual history of Western Australia's Beagle Bay

Just north of the city of Broome resides one of three Aboriginal communities and a unique part of Western Australian history. Beagle Bay is an unspoiled scenic territory that is home to a beautiful old church built during the First World War. While on locum tenens assignment, you can learn about the culture of this vibrant indigenous community.

The Sacred Heart Church, built entirely of stone by Pallottine monks, is the site of a mission for Aboriginal people that dates back to the late 1800s. As you step into its historic interior, you'll find a stunning pearl shell altar that encapsulates the culture of the community, accented by colorful stained-glass windows.

While it used to thrive as its own community, farming cattle, fruit and vegetables, as well as running a bakery and soft drink factory, today's Beagle Bay has become more of a tranquil place to pass through for local sightseers or tourists on vacation.
