Prepare for a thrilling ride at New Zealand's Makara Peak

Whether you're heading to New Zealand's Wellington region for the first time or you're a seasoned traveler to the area, a mountain bike excursion can shed light on the landscape in a whole new way. From the Lazy Fern and the Koru to Missing Link and Ridgeline, the number of bike paths make this spot one of the best mountain biking destinations in the country. When you take a medical job in New Zealand, be sure to tackle at least one of Makara Peak Park's arduous trails.

First-timers may want to start off on a path like the Lazy Fern. The track is less than a mile (1.3 km) long and is generally downhill the whole way. Maneuvering your way through bush, you'll get to enjoy an exclusive look at the wild Makara Peak without worrying about your expert biking skills. To add to your eye-opening adventure, you can continue the ride along the Koru, which is the main track into the park. The gentle grade of this portion is also perfect for novice riders.

One of the most popular tracks is the Missing Link, which falls right in between the easy and expert trails. The narrow, and at times steep, path is also a two-way course, so be sure to stay alert while riding.
