Take in scenic views of the Three Sisters in the Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains of New South Wales are famous for their spectacular landscapes, and locum tenens can see one of the most magnificent sights in this region of Australia when they visit the Three Sisters.

The Three Sisters are a unique rock formation near the town of Katoomba. Named for the three pillars that soar nearly a kilometer above the floor of the adjacent Jamison Valley, this attraction is considered to be one of the most popular destinations for tourists who visit the Blue Mountains.

According to local legend, the rocks were once human sisters who fell in love with men from a rival tribe. When the tribe's elders forbade them from marrying, the men attacked the sisters' people in an attempt to take them by force. One of the tribal magicians turned the sisters to stone to protect them, but his death in the battle prevented them from being returned to their human forms.

Geologists, on the other hand, say that the Three Sisters were formed by erosion. The Blue Mountains are made of soft sandstone, and the forces of wind and water ate away at the rock over time to create these unique formations.
