Taste the authentic flavors of Australia

Australia takes much pride in its native cuisine and cocktails. Award-winning meat pies and internationally recognized wine products are part of what makes Australia unique from other countries. To celebrate this diversity, the nation started Tasting Australia in 1997, a biennial culinary festival that showcases the best produce, food, wine and beers that the nation has to offer. When you're on a locum tenens assignment, check out the official celebration in the spring, or create your own unofficial tasting tour at any time of year.

To kick off the event, the Australian Native Food Industry Limited (ANFIL) will hold an art exhibition to showcase the amazing native produce grown around the country. Artwork in vibrant, bold colors will showcase bush food including Acacia beans, bush tomatoes, desert limes and quandongs.

Of course, a culinary festival is not complete until you've sampled some snacks. All week, organizers will host multiple-course meals featuring fresh, seasonal produce sourced from surrounding regions of Southern Australia, such as the Barossa Valley. At one particular luncheon, Jacob's Creek winery will supply its Regional Reserve wines to complement the meal, all within the comfort of the Jacob's Creek restaurant. As you eat, you can look out to the rolling hills covered in vines and savor each bite of your gourmet meal.

No matter when you plan to start your locum tenens job, Australia's authentic cuisine will be awaiting your arrival.
