The grounds of Queens Park are fit for royalty

Invercargill has a special relationship with Mother Nature: roses, azaleas, and hydrangeas spill onto pathways and parkways in colors you'll swear you've never seen. And Queens Park—in the center of the city—is the kind of attraction that will keep you coming back for more when you take a medical job in New Zealand.

More than 200 acres (81 hectares) of flora cover the grounds of Queens Park, inviting you to rest beside a valley of native forest, herb gardens and even a Japanese-style garden. After spending time under the New Zealand sun, you can head into the Southland Museum and Art Gallery, which you likely won't miss because of its unique pyramid shape.

Throughout the Land of the Long White Cloud, Maori culture is prominent, and you'll get a prime sample in the Southland Museum. This gallery highlights what the country was like before the influence of European settlers, showcasing everyday customs and art forms like wooden sculptures and musical instruments.
