Uluru to transform into a field of glowing orbs

Australia's Uluru, otherwise known as Ayers Rock, is beautiful on any given day, but British artist Bruce Munro has decided to kick it up a notch with a massive light display at the natural attraction. The lighting designer and installation mastermind has devoted the last few years of his life to making smaller versions of the Uluru project all around the world. The Australian installation is his biggest yet, set to light up the desert rock in May 2013. You can't miss out on this spectacle when you take a medical job in Australia during this time.

Consisting of 2,044 miles (3,290 km) of fiber optics, the display will incorporate a quarter of a million solar-powered stems of light that cover just over a half-square mile (1 sq km) of land in the heart of the red desert of Australia.

"We're going to be extraordinarily careful, and we're using 500 LED solar-powered illuminators, so that the installation doesn't waste any power," Munro stated. "I consider myself extraordinarily privileged to be invited to work here."

This stunning World Heritage Site holds much historic significance to the indigenous people of the region, and the glowing field is intended to highlight that.
