Visit the Hobbit's cinematic world in New Zealand

Lifelong fans of J.R.R. Tolkien’s writing can’t travel to the fictional world of Middle-earth, but they can certainly visit the next best thing on your locum assignment in New Zealand.

USA Today reported that the Lord of the Rings trilogy featured 158 New Zealand locations. The franchise went on to help boost tourism to the island country and sell 500,000 copies of The Lord of the Rings Location Guidebook.

During your time in New Zealand, you may want to visit a few of the locations that were recently used for the Hobbit. On the North Island in Matamata, you'll find the Alexander Farm, which is more commonly known as the Hobbiton Movie Set.

This simple sheep farm changed forever when Jackson and officials New Line Cinema came across its cinematic green hills during an aerial search, states the attraction’s website. When you take a tour of these grounds, you will come across many of the Hobbit dwellings that are set to appear in the upcoming film.
