Watch world-class surfers along Australia's Byron Bay

On the eastern edge of Australia and the northeastern tip of New South Wales is Byron Bay, a coastal town with out-of-this-world surfing beaches. While there's nearly a dozen to write home about, you'll be content visiting even one of these perfect stretches of sand when you take a medical job in Australia. Whether you're looking to barbecue, surf or just lie on the sand, Byron Bay has a beach for you.

Wategos Beach rests along the northern coast of the peninsula and is popular with the locals and some of the nearly 2 million tourists who visit Byron Bay each year. Dotted with free barbecue grills and picnic tables, the beach is perfect for families and friends to spend all day watching surfers catch colossal waves and enjoy a nice surfside meal as the sun begins to set.

Walking along a path from Wategos, you'll find its sister stretch of sand named Little Wategos. This spot is perfect for getting situated on one of its many rock boulders jutting out from the coastline and fishing for its diverse marine life.
